Last weekend I hit the gravel and spun my wheels countryside through the big city of Minneapolis and ventured into Rogers, MN where the MN State Turkey Calling Championship was held. I raced by the towering city buildings, congestions of traffic and across the metropolitan area with my Illusion Systems diaphragm turkey calls in hand!

I was pleasantly surprised to hear my name called for 1st place for the Intermediate Division and then was announced right-on back to receive my 3rd place Open Division award. It's always great to work hard for something and come away not only successful, but hauling that gratification of knowing all your previous practice of racketing high-toned yelps in my dorm room and on my driving around was well worthit.

Winners received a gift certificate from the sporting goods store and I used it within minutes to purchase some of the new spring gear I planned on using for the season.

Turkey calling is a lively sport that anyone or any age can participate in. It is a great opportunity to have fun, talk turkey and if you're lucky, take home a trophy, plaque, gift cards or a fond memory of the experience.

It is just another great opportunity to get your son, daughter or new friend involved in the outdoor experience. It all boils down to promoting the sport of hunting through different avenues and getting more people participating. It is our job, and it's always a blessing to live the outdoors experience.
